On 10 March, the world's first female cosmonaut, State Duma deputy from United Russia Valentina Tereshkova, unexpectedly proposed resetting Vladimir Putin's presidential terms to zero and thus allowing him to run again (the State Duma and the Federation Council have already approved Tereshkova's amendment). There were suggestions that the deputy, who rarely speaks in the State Duma, made her proposal at the Kremlin's request. Tereshkova, however, claimed during her speech in the State Duma that she had done it at the request of voters. On 11 March she repeated this version in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda. According to Tereshkova, she proposed giving Putin the opportunity to run for president again because ordinary people had asked her to, not political circles.
